Hollywood A.D.: Off the Top of My Head (SPOILERS) What I liked: (CAUTION: this list includes spoilers for the upcoming ep teaser) Too long to list everything I liked about HAD, but I'll throw out a few. If there *is* an 8th season of TXF, TPTB have *got* to get DD to write/direct another ep. At least one. Preferably more. - The teaser. I nearly lost it during those few minutes, it was so funny. The movie scenes: the lighting, the timing, the Pontiff... it was the anti-X-Files. It was wonderful. The theater scene: DD did a terrific mortified Mulder, but GA was even better as a shocked Scully. So much in so little -- bravo. - Wayne Federman. I hooted. I howled. I smiled a lot. This guy was *perfect* for the part. - The "I am the Walrus" reference. My all-time favorite TV show and my all-time favorite musical group together in one place? Be still my heart. :) - But the Stones get a mention, too. That might have been my favorite Federman line. - The cobwebs on the hanging light fixture in the crypt. Why? Beats me. I just liked the detail. - DD and Shandling together. When the X-Files is no more, can we get these two in a series together? Please? - Mulder attempting to switch his phone over to talk to Scully, but it's still Skinner on the line. Cheap joke, I know, but I grinned anyway. - CHUCK! I'm always glad to see him. The Gunmen could adopt him as their newest member when their series starts. - Yeah, I gotta say it: the teaser for the season finale. A hug! A hug! Please, God, let that be because of a coherent mytharc plot development. (Stop laughing at me... I can dream, can't I?) What I didn't like: - That shot of Skinner as he started to bawl out Mulder and Scully after Hoffman turned out to be alive. It was weird and out of place, IMO. - The "Scully shows Tea Leoni how to run in high heels" bit. Yes, the *idea* was very funny, but it didn't work for me in the background. I would have preferred to see some Scully/TL interaction up close and personal. :) Frankly, I thought Tea Leoni was underused. - Don't yell at me, because I know that the whole Lazarus Bowl case was not the point of this ep. BUT... I still needed more information about the investigation, particularly the visions that Scully had. Did she ever tell Mulder about them? Whose body was that in the crypt? And what exactly were O'Fallon and Hoffman doing between Mulder and Scully's suspension and when they died? Was Hoffman ever arrested for his crimes? Did O'Fallon get in any hot water because of the forged documents he'd bought? There were serious issues of faith brought up in this ep, and I need some kind of resolution. What's got me puzzled: - I re-wound to double-check, and I'm still confused. When Mulder, Scully, and Federman were at Hoffman's studio, how did Federman know that O'Fallon had copies of the documents that Hoffman had made? I couldn't find a mention of those documents earlier in the ep. - Scully saying that it was sad that Mulder had seen "Plan 9 from Outer Space" 42 times. She said it in such a weird, unScully way that it confused me. - The zombies dancing at the end. Just a bit of fun, or should I be reading more into it? God is in the details, and except for my concerns about the Lazarus Bowl investigation itself, I thought this ep was fantastic. The story was interesting, funny as hell, easy to follow, and easy to swallow. I am a happy Phile this evening -- I just wish the ep had been longer. If this is it for DD's writing/directing for the show, he went out in style.
